Eagle's Talons

This picture conveys the power behind those talons. The Eagle is one of the most handsome birds I have ever photographed. The captive bird was at display during Photokina 2006 at Cologne, Germany.

Attack of the Soldier Crabs

An attempt to create something unusual, something surealistic. Soldier crabs from Outer Space seem to be attacking Planet Earth.

Landscape at Mahableshwar

If you care to look, India too has its 'Grand Canyons'. OK, may not be as picturesque as the original Grand Canyon, but, you'll have to admit, its good.

A Lonely Doggie

I don't know why, but I very much liked this doggie as seen through a fish-eye lens.

Is That A Drifting Log?

Is that a drifting log? No, its a camouflaged croc!

Hippo

Pseudo Infrared

I am very fond of black & white infrared images. IR films are prohibitively expensive and so I created a pseudo-IR photo using Photoshop.

"Champa"

I created a diffuse glow using Photoshop. I liked the image better this way.

Red Poppies

I liked the bright red colors of these backlit Poppies. I carefully spot-metered a highlight but then opened up a bit to retain detail in the darker areas.

Langur

This young Langur monkey enjoyed being photographed. The picture of the Indian Roller as well as the other Langur monkey on this blog, were taken at Pench.

"Chapattis" for the Elephants

These are specially made "chapattis" for the domesticated elephants kept at the Reserve.

A Trip to Pench Tiger Reserve

Accompanied by good friends from Orange City Photographers Club, Nagpur, I went to enjoy nature and wildlife at Pench Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh. I had seen some wonderful images of Pench tigers, photographed by my friend "Kakubhai" from Mumbai, and so, with great expectations, we entered the Reserve. Even though it was the beginning of April, early mornings were quite cold, but not uncomfortable. After 9am, the scorching sun would burn your skin. Eyes peeled, watching everything that moved, waiting to hear the alarm call of the "langur' monkey or the deer, finger on the shutter release button. We managed to photograph several birds and animals, but the tiger remained elusive. We made five trips to the Reserve, but could not really photograph any tiger. Yes, we did see a tranquilized tiger that was radio-collared some hours ago, about 500 meters away but not worth photographing. I am sure some of us were disappointed but then, I reminded myself, that the tiger, though most beautiful of all animals, is not the only animal in a jungle. One has to enjoy being with nature and not go to a sanctuary with the sole idea of photographing the tiger. Here are a few pictures I got at Pench.

At Sunset

Nothing Special

There is nothing special about this photo - except that it looks different due to the use of a fish-eye lens. This is a real gimmicky lens (very useful) that can provide some unusual images.

Goa Church

An early morning photo of a beautiful church in Goa.

Needle Point

An early morning shot of Needle Point, Mahableshwar.

White Balance

You don't always have to use the right "White Balance'. Play around with the white balance of your digital camera and see for yourself.

Daybreak

Boats

This image was shot at Gateway of India, Mumbai. I like pictures that are more in width and so I elongated the image in Photoshop. (The image is stretched horizontally).

Heron in flight

As anyone who has tried his hand at photographing flying birds knows, getting it right is not very easy-at least till you have a good practice. I photographed this bird at Jijamata Udyan in Mumbai and composed it diagonally in Photoshop.
